![]() ![]() ![]() Muffled sound carried through the closed door, though here music played over the radio. If our baby looked similar to Wendy had, it must be in good health. I giggled, as I spotted a smudge of gel on his shirt sleeve. Renton tried to hug my shoulders, avoiding the gel, and hugged Talho next, giving Wendy a kiss. Suddenly, his features lit up, in a winsome grin. Talho passed him a much needed tissue, for he had gotten a dribbly nose. Renton's eyes had glazed over and he sniffed. I gripped Renton's hand harder, as his fingers had loosened, and I didn't want him to let go of me. Talho had taken the words out of my mouth. "Wendy, this is how you looked in your mother's tummy too." "She's beautiful." Then lowered her voice. I wiped my eyes and grinned, forgetting all about the horrible gel on my belly, as I observed each body as it was described. "This is the baby's head, and it's limbs have started to come into shape too." "You can see here,' Mischa tilted the ultrasound screen towards me, and pointed at a rounded edge. Tears of joy filed my eyes and my surroundings blurred. I felt so happy, so proud, so relieved that nothing was wrong. Renton gasped like Gidget sometimes did when she found a new, exciting colour of nail polish. "There's a 5% chance that I'm wrong but you appear to be carrying a little girl." Mischa ran the metallic ultrasound handle over my stomach for a few moments before nodding. "Can you tell what the gender is yet?" I asked. Your baby is definitely mostly human as far as appearances are concerned." I knew he wouldn't mind, even if our baby was more Coralian than human. "So long as it's not some hybrid Coralian-only gender we're good," he joked. Talho entered the room, as it was Holland's turn to cook. The smell of cooking wafted from the kitchen. The Gekko's heating was usually on the warm side for me, though the gel made it feel like I had stepped into an industrial freezer. I shivered and squirmed, as Mischa pressed freezing cold blue ultrasound gel on my belly. I undressed to my bra and skirt, and laid on a table, where a rusty old ultrasound machine was leaning over me on my left. Holland, I knew your temper would get you into trouble one day.Ī few weeks later, Renton and I went to Mischa's office. Instead of just finding work exhausting, this extra embarrassment made it a new definition of terror. The uncomfortable confrontation was splashed on page five of the newspapers, and became the inspiration for many jokes at my work. ![]() My stupid gape would have been witnessed by everybody in Minsall and the towns beyond. He swore profusely, more than I'd ever heard him say, and the journalists clicked their cameras. "Go find another crew of misfits to take photos of, you…" I saw through a gap between Holland's elbow and hip seven journalists winced, though stood their ground. EUREKA SEVEN AO EUREKA PREGNANT FREEHe broke free of my grip and pushed open the front gate. My socks slipped against the floor, and I tugged harder, gritting my teeth. He continued walking, and I learned back, digging my feet against the floorboards. "Wait." I leapt from my chair and yanked on Holland's arm. He was heading towards the door, probably wanting to start a confrontation. Holand growled, and stormed from the table, ignoring his steaming tea. It was late afternoon, a Wednesday, though which Wednesday I wasn't sure. "Excuse me, is Mr or Mrs Thurston there?"Ī man's voice carried through the Gekko's door. ![]()
